Task steps, hazards and controls
Swipe or step through on mobile
| Step | Hazards | Controls |
|---|---|---|
| Verify status and handover before first use | Use of incomplete, unhandover or unsafe scaffold | Check the scaffold tag / handover certificate and its date, confirm it is suitable for the intended work and duration, confirm correct access is provided |
| Visual check before each use | Damage, missing components, ties removed by others, debris, wet or icy platforms | Walk and visually inspect before use each day, check guardrails, toeboards, planks, ties and access, do not use if anything is missing or damaged |
| Work from the scaffold | Falls, falling objects onto residents and public, overloading, trip hazards on the platform | Keep within the guardrails, gates closed, tools and materials secured or lanyarded, exclusion zone and signage below, distribute and limit loads, keep the platform clear and tidy |
| Report defects and coordinate changes | Unauthorised alteration, continued use of defective scaffold | Never alter the scaffold — stop work, tag out where required, notify the SCS supervisor and the Main Contractor and obtain a re-handover before resuming |
